Our Exclusive Process
Cambridge Custom Chrome is not just another plating shop. Restoration and plating of POT METAL is our specialty.
Our EXCLUSIVE PROCESS for restoring pot metal by filling and hand sanding the pits, as well as the actual plating, is the finest in hand craftsmenship.
THE PROCESS:

Stripping away of all old plating.

Sandblasting.
|

Our exclusive method for filling the pits while maintaining the true shape and contour of the piece includes a series of fillings and hand sandings until pits are eliminated.

Plating in COPPER for 4 to 6 hours.

| 5. |
Another series of HAND sandings and polishings to a lustrous mirror finish.

| 6. |
A series of cleanings.
|
| 7. |
Heavy plating of very bright NICKEL.
|
| 8. |
CHROME plating.
|
| 9. |
Final polishing
|
This entire process, for all pieces - INCLUDING BUMPERS - is performed at Cambridge Custom Chrome's state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly shop.
How does this process make Cambridge Custom Chrome different than a regular plating shop?
Most plating shops try to grind out the pits, resulting in flat spots and the loss of the piece's true contour.
